Initiated by former national goalkeeper and inspiration for the Bollywood film Chak De! India, Mir Ranjan Negi, we are a community-building organisation that utilises sports – with an emphasis on hockey – to encourage children from a low economic status to become contributing members of society and kick start an interest in the sport.
After the overwhelmingly positive response for Chak De! India, Mir Ranjan Negi felt it was important to promote hockey at a grass root level, he saw enough passion for the sport but not enough action to teach it. Since its inception in 2008, the Abhi Foundation has set up various sports academies with the help of its promoters. It is providing a framework for children who are not usually given the chance to explore their athletic potential. The training begins right at the basics and progresses to a level that is preparing these them to play at a national level.
